Cheers to Gratitude!
What a weekend for sports here. I attended the Rockies game on Friday where they won 17-16 in one of the wildest games I’ve ever seen! Then, Leah won her pickleball tournament the very next day. I’m so proud of her, her teammate Chelsea, and all of the hard work they did to get there.
Now it’s Monday, another chemo day. It’s the first time I’ve seen every chair full here. The nurses are busy and the machines are beeping at them relentlessly. I am yet again thankful that I don’t have to be here more often than I do. This is a hectic Monday for everyone here and I’m glad we show our gratitude through Leah’s cookies.
I received some really encouraging news from my nurse and I am doing well enough to have a beer at the baseball game. I was emotional when I heard her say that. I thought it wouldn’t be possible ever again and had just written it off. I don’t drink much anymore, but a ballgame beer with a buddy is something that I’ve always enjoyed.
The only one I could think of to mark the occasion was a Right Field Red from the Sandlot brewery there at Coors Field. I still had to take my own koozie so the cold cup didn’t bother my fingers. My friends Alex, Andy, and I toasted to life and then enjoyed the historically last place Rockies crawl their way back from the Pirates scoring 9 runs in the first inning. It was chaotic, yet somehow poetic!
I have a PET scan later this month but we’re anticipating good results from it. Chemo is working. 7 of 12 rounds through this heavyweight fight.
